Prediction League adopts a refreshingly different approach from its peers. It requires participants to play against the odds where the person that makes the most ‘money’ beats everyone else. In every game week, a tournament will open on the site providing players with the opportunity to ‘bet’ on all the matches. For example, in a single Barclays Premier League tournament, players place bets on games being played that week. Odds will be shown for each individual match like that below.
E.g. Manchester United v Leeds United
Odds: Man Utd 1.2 / Draw 3.5 / Leeds United 5.9
In the above case, if you choose Man Utd, and they do indeed win, every point (or dollar) that you place on them earns you 1.2 points. However, if you predicted the correct outcome being Leeds United winning, every point nets you 5.9 points! Imagine how an astute football fan can easily win the tournament if he had placed 5 points on Leeds United winning.
This means that this Prediction League is more akin to real life cash betting where the aim is to obviously make oneself richer. The player that has the most profit at the end of a particular game week is that tournament’s overall winner. Our method also requires players to place bets on all games being played in a particular tournament. This tests participants’ wide knowledge of soccer rather than allowing people to continuously pick some well known team. Moreover, there is a minimum and maximum betting amount for each individual match. This prevents players from pooling and eventually losing most of their points on a single game that they feel is a ‘banker’.
Just remember that a player that predicts the most correct match outcomes may not win overall as he may have picked only the favourites with very low odds. Have you ever had the scenario where you won 10 - $1 bets, only to lose a $50 one? Also, a player that is bolder and places larger bets on higher odds can easily get himself burned or be crowned as a genius. Wise management of your allocated ‘money’ is the name of the game.
